This is a traditional
Korean house dating from the Joseon Dynasty that is located in Songwol-dong,
Naju-si in Jeollanam-do Province. It was designated as Jeollanam-do Cultural
Heritage Material No. 158 on March 16, 1988. Since it was built by Choi
Sun-hwan in the late 19th century, this traditional private
residence that is characteristic of traditional houses in Naju has been
well-preserved. It appears that the wood processing and cutting methods
employed were excellent, and the large framework and ribs show the unique
characteristics of traditional houses of the southern provinces of Korea. The
stylobate has a nicely decorated inscription that reads, “Eulchukmaengdongyeongchunjiheon.”
