Introducing famous Naju attractions with a special charm.
Its beauty comes from the harmony of history and modern culture within. The spiritual healing offered by Naju comes from this harmony.
Dorae Village is a hanok (traditional
Korean house) village that is home to the Pungsan Hong family clan. It is
arguably the village that best presents the traditional residential
architectural style in Naju.
It is also called Docheon, as the village
layout is in the shape of the Chinese character, “川 (Cheon).”
In the village, there is harmonious coexistence of hanok with roof tiles and
stone walls, and thatched-roof houses. Yangbyeokjeong and Yeonghojeong
pavilions nestled behind a small pond present a picturesque sight, while the
second-story Hyojamun at the entrance creates a unique landscape. There are a
large number of valuable cultural heritage sites and traditional buildings such
as Yangbyeokjeong near the entrance of the village, Yeonghojeong, Gyeeunjeong,
Seobyeokdang, Gwiraedang, House of Hong Gi-heon (Importance Folk Material No.
165), House of Hong Gi-eung (Important Folk Material No. 151), House of Hong
Gi-chang (Jeollanam-do Folk Material No. 9), and House of Hong Gi-jong
(Jeollanam-do Folk Material No. 10).
The village is surrounded by Siksan
Mountain, which is described to have had abundant sources of food that could
feed the entire troops in the nation for three days and more, and there are
stretches of fields and the Doraecheon Stream in front of the village. So, the
village has mountains in the back and water in the front, which is considered
auspicious according to Pungsujiri (Theory of Geomancy). In recent years,
paragliding enthusiasts have been flocking to Siksan Mountains to fly across
the sky every weekend.
