Geumhakheon’
means a ‘house with the spirit of a classical scholar who wishes to lead a
refined life like that of a crane, while listening to the sounds of geomungo.’
One you enter the main gate of the private residence of Naju-moksa, which demonstrates
the elegant beauty unique to traditional private residences of government
officials, you will come across a well-maintained yard, the house, and the
“hackberry, which was struck by lightning” and which is more than 500 years
old. The private residence of Naju-moksa was built in the traditional Korean
housing style (hanok) and it faces the south. It is in a U shape, which is not
very often observed among the hanoks found in the southern provinces.
Geumseonggwan, which was a guesthouse inside the Najueupseong Fortress used by
the government, and Jeongsuru, or a public office, still remain today.
