Introducing famous Naju attractions with a special charm.
Its beauty comes from the harmony of history and modern culture within. The spiritual healing offered by Naju comes from this harmony.
A memorial hall commemorating the Naju
Student Independence Movement, which took place during the Japanese occupation
period, is situated adjacent to the old Naju Station.
The Naju Student Independence Movement was
spurred by a conflict between Japanese and Korean students, who were commuting
to school on a train between Naju and Gwangju, at the Naju Station on October
30, 1929. The Naju Student Independence Movement is commonly viewed as one of
the three major independence movements that were organized during the Japanese
occupation period. Next to the old Naju Station, regarded as the originating
point for the movement, the Naju Student Independence Movement Memorial Hall
was opened on July 25, 2008 to raise awareness of modern history and to provide
insight into the Naju Student Independence Movement and the situation in
Jeollanam-do during the colonial period.
The memorial hall, where there are various
exhibits providing information on the movement, is open daily from 9:00 a.m.
until 6 p.m., and the admission is free-of-charge. When you visit the memorial
hall, don’t forget to check out the old Naju Station, which has been designated
as Jeollanam-do Monument No. 183.
