“The Dongsa-ri Stone Lantern is found at Nampyeong Elementary School. According to a survey report from 1977, the foundation stone is buried underground and its appearance cannot be confirmed, but the bottom stone of the pedestal has an engraving of a lotus flower facing downward. The bottom of the stone lantern is octagonal, with no engravings on the sides. The lotus flower facing upward has been worn down severely, and its appearance is not clearly distinguishable. However, it appears to be octagonal, and the detailed patterns of the petals cannot be observed.
As for the fire chamber, a rectangular radial stone material was made in place of a four-cornered column, but it is questionable that this was the original structure. On top of it, there is an octagonal roof stone, with a distinctive hip, and there are no carvings on the channels between the rows of tiles. These are also quite worn down.
The stupa finial has a precious bead on it. Generally speaking, the lantern was not made using refined techniques. It is estimated to have been erected in the Goryeo Dynasty.”
