“The Jamisanseong Fortress in Bannam-myeon, Naju is located in the heart of the Naju Plains along the Yeongsangang river basin, and thus provides protection for this important area. It is a fairly small fortress, with a circumference of 660m, but it is speculated to have performed the role of a mountain fortress, defending against foreign invasions, based on the presence of the Yongwangcheon Spring and building sites.
When you ascend to the top of the fortress, you will be able to enjoy a panoramic view. At 10km north of the fortress, Hoejinseong Fort is located on the riverside of Yeongsangang, while Wolchulsan Mountain stands to its south. The west area is enclosed by the Yeongsangang River flowing southward from Hampyeong School, and to the east, there are hills that travers the plains and connect Hanchijae of Geonjisan Mountain and Deongnyongjae of Deongnyongsan with the Guksabong of Yeongam.
The Jamisanseong Fortress, built on a hill that is only 94.5m above sea level, was constructed using a mix of earth and stones. It appears that the soil was excavated for the burial of the walls into the ground, but due to the landslides from the peak of the mountain, soil has covered the area and made it flat. There are three locations, which are speculated to have been the gate sites; however, there are no gate structures that remain. At present, the peak of the mountain is a 0.1ha flat land, and has a heliport.”
