Nampyeong Station located on Dongchon-ro in Nampyeong-eup, Naju has been chosen as the “Most Beautiful Provisional Station in Korea,” and is well-known as the backdrop of “At Sapyeong Station,” a poem written by Gwak Jae-gu. Nampyeong Station, built in the 1950s, has been well-preserved with excellent structural integrity, and in recognition of its architectural and historical value, it was designated as Korea Modern Cultural Heritage (Registered Cultural Heritage No. 299) on December 4, 2006.
It has become a non-stopping station due to the decline in railway passengers in the area, and this is why Nampyeong Station has turned into a tourist attraction that people visit to enjoy the rustic scenery. In spring, cherry blossoms near the station welcome visitors, while in fall, one can see beautiful waves of cosmos flowers. There is a 250m-long rail bike track near the station, and this is another reason it receives many visitors traveling with their families. Nampyeong Station transformed into a cultural space called the Tea World Gallery, displaying tea sets and sculptures in December 2012. Once you step inside the gallery, you will be left in awe of the beautiful tea sets and photographs of the breathtaking appearance of Nampyeong Station that changes throughout the year, and get to read Kim No-geum’s poem, “The Tale of Nampyeong Station” and Kim Cheol-su’s poem, “At Nampyeong Station.
