This is a statue of the Buddha created in the Goryeo period. It is located in Manbong-ri, Bonghwang-myeon, Naju, and has been designated as Jeollanam-do Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 64.
The Manbong-ri Standing Stone Buddha is 2.3m tall. The bottom part is buried in the ground, making it difficult to examine the pedestal stone, but the statue itself has been made using granite. The face of the Buddha looks narrow and has a graceful and humble smile. Similar to the Cheolcheon-ri Standing Stone Buddha (Treasure No. 462) found in Bonghwang-myeon, it has a U-shaped parallel platform from the chest, while the area from below the chest to the legs was sculpted using similar techniques as the Seokgyo-ri Stone Buddha Statue (Treasure No. 116) in Yeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. Based on this, it is speculated that the Manbong-ri Standing Stone Buddha was created before the Cheolcheon-ri Standing Stone Buddha.
The arc-shaped eyebrows and the half-moon-shaped eyes make the Buddha appear as though he has attained enlightenment. Considering the overall shape, it has the general characteristics of the Buddha statues made in the Goryeo period, but it appears to have been influenced by the Buddha statue styles from the Unified Silla Period.
