“Bulhoesa Temple is where you can enjoy the colorful autumn foliage the longest in Korea, and it is a popular tourist attraction, along with the nearby Najuho Lake. Bulhoesa Temple puts its beholders in awe, with the exquisite lines displayed on the eaves of the Daeungjeon Hall.
Daeungjeon, recognized for its exceptional beauty, was promoted from Jeollanam-do Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 3 to Treasure No. 1310 in 2001. Inside the hall, there are 22 murals displayed on the walls. The entasis of the columns and the beautiful lines at the tip of the eaves are eye-catching. The Bulhoesa Temple compound contains Daeungjeon, Myeongbujeon, Samseonggak, Nahanjeon and living quarters for the monks. Nahanjeon, in particular, has the portrait of National Preceptor Wonjin, whose sarira-stupa found at a different location of the temple site has been designated as Jeollanam-do Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 225.”
