“The Three-story Stone Pagoda Outside the North Gate, which was designated as Treasure No. 50 in 1963, was given its name as it was found on the foothills of Geumseongsan Mountain outside the northern gate of the Najueupseong Fortress.
It was moved to the front yard of the Naju-gun Office by the Japanese in 1915. Even when the Naju-gun Office was relocated, it was maintained at the present-day location along with the restoration of Geumseonggwan. The pagoda is a small stone pagoda with two stylobates and the main body placed on top. A pillar shape has been carved into each face of the stylobates. There are carvings on the corners of the bottom stylobate, and on the corners and faces on the top stylobate. The main body is comprised of a main stone and a roof stone, with the main stone narrowing toward the top, thus giving it a sharp appearance. A pillar shape has been carved into each corner of the main stone. The roof stone is thick, with three-level support on each bottom face, while at the top, the tip of the eaves curves upward. As for the ornamental top, only the support and the ornament in the shape of an upside-down bowl remain.
The three-story stone pagoda has been weathered considerably, and it is not considered an exceptional piece of artwork. However, it has maintained a neat appearance, and the composing parts appear proportionately beautiful. Based on the style, it is speculated to have been erected in the late Goryeo period.”
