The Hanging Painting for Outdoor Rituals at Dabosa Temple, designated as Treasure No. 1343, depicts the Buddha triad that completely cover the screen, with Avalokitesvara, Mahasthamaprapta, Prabhutaratna, and Amitabha in pairs on the upper part of the painting.
It is 1,143cm long and 852cm wide. It’s been said that it was originally enshrined at the Boheungsa Temple on Geumseongsan Mountain in Naju. Records show that the hanging painting was painted by 9 painters including Uigyeom, one of the most prominent monk painters in the late Joseon period, in 1745 (21th year of King Yeongjo’s reign over Joseon). The painting is characterized by gorgeous clothes, yet the shapes, colors and lines are not very precise. For this reason, it is considered an important artwork that reveals the artistic tendencies of Uigyeom in his later years. The hanging painting has been transferred to the Naju Local Cultural Center.
