The Stone Lantern Inside the West Gate of Naju, designated as Treasure No. 364, is 3.27m tall and was originally situated inside the western gate of the Najueupseong Fortress in Seongbuk-dong, Naju. It was relocated to Gyeongbokgung Palace to be preserved in a storage in 1929, and was later transferred to the National Museum of Korea in 2001.
The octagonal fire chamber and precious beads that had been damaged were newly constructed, so they look quite different today.
While there are no detailed records that evidence this speculation, based on the existence of a stone flagpole and a three-story stone pagoda outside the Bungmanmun Gate (Treasure No. 50), it can be inferred that there were probably multiple Buddhist temples nearby.
