Introducing famous Naju attractions with a special charm.
Its beauty comes from the harmony of history and modern culture within. The spiritual healing offered by Naju comes from this harmony.
Jeongnyeolsa Shrine is dedicated to the
five patriotic men from Naju including Kim Cheon-il, who raised a righteous
army for the first time during Imjinwaerang (Japanese Invasion of Korea in
1592).
It was first erected in the 39th
year of King Seonjo’s reign under Woljeongbong Peak behind Naju High School. In
the following year, the shrine was given the name Jeongnyeolsa and was
relocated to a site near the former Naju silk yarn factory, after which it was
relocated and repaired several times. It was relocated to the present-day
location in 1984.
Jeongnyeolsabi is a monument that presents
the records of the righteous army activities of Kim Cheon-il during
Imjinwaeran. It was erected in 1626 and relocated a number of times before
finally being placed on the site of Jeongnyeolsa.
The inscriptions on Jeongnyeolsabi provide
details on the founding of Jeongnyeolsa and the commendable merits of Kim
Cheon-il. Kim Cheon-il was at the forefront of the righteous army movement in
Jeolla-do during Imjinwaerang, was an erudite person who is now hailed as one
of the “five sages of Honam,” and was a well-respected government official who
administered wisely.
